Strengths
Very effective creating nice, snug broad contacts and convex proximals. Intimate contact facilitated by the rubberized tines minimizes flash and u-shaped tissue surface gives options for wedge placement. New XR ring expands versatility of 3D concept, especially on short teeth and distal of canines, and resists degradation from repeated autoclaving. Good selection of bands. Color-coding on Slick bands makes size selection easier. Slick bands are easier to remove. Short learning curve. Classy and organized packaging.
Weaknesses
Tines are bulky. Can be stacked, but it's more difficult the closer you get to the canine. Still doesn't work very well on very large preps. XR helps with pop-offs, but doesn't prevent them entirely.
BOTTOM LINE
XR rings improve an already very good system for achieving predictable contacts, but they are still not 100% pop-off proof.
